Speech and language therapists work with children and adults who have difficulties with communication, or with eating, drinking and swallowing.
We carry out full assessments of the individual's abilities so that treatment can be tailored to the specific needs of the individual.
We also work closely with people who play an important part in the individual's life such as parents, carers, and other professionals such as teachers, or nurses. In this way, we can help others to support the individual in their everyday environment.
Speech and Language therapy may be provided in a number of ways:
Some therapists offer a combination of different types of therapy. Decisions about which type of service meets a particular individual's needs are based on information about the type and level of an individual's needs gathered by the Speech and Language therapist at the initial assessment and during the therapy process.
